How to Build a Wooden Swing Set

Building a wooden swing set in your backyard for your children is a rewarding experience plus it will get you brownie points with the spouse. You should first decide whether you want to build from scratch with plans provided elsewhere or if you want to build from a kit.

If you decide to build from a kit there are various online vendors who sell these kits. While these kits will cost you a little more money they do include all the necessary hardware and accessories. This alone will save you quite a bit of time. If you decide you would like to go that route a couple of the sets available to you with pictures are listed below. If you decide you want to go the route of building your own from plans there are many resources available on the internet. Other places to look would be at your local hardware store or pick up a book at Lowes or Home Depot or a swing set retailer. Most plans you will find at these locations will be designed for someone with little or no experience and provide for the swing set to be built in a minimal amount of time.

The plans will come with a detailed list of the material and tools required to build the set. Also the measurements are listed for each piece of wood. Speaking of wood, you have to use pre-treated lumber on your swing set to avoid wear and tear from the outside weather conditions.

The last thing to think about when building your own wooden swing set from scratch is where you will purchase the accessories for the swing set. Swing sets require special hardware and accessories like hooks and such that aren’t carried in normal hardware stores. Therefore you must have a good list of suppliers for such things and I will cover that in a later post. Until then, here are a couple links for instructions on building a wooden swing set from scratch.
