Swing Set Types

I’m sure most people know what a swing or swing set is. A swing is a hanging seat found in a playground attached to a rope or a chain. When the swing is in motion it oscillates like a pendulum until it is brought to a halt by some type of drag.

When several swings are suspended from the same metal or wooden frame we call this a swing set. Swing sets allow more than one child to swing at a time. Swing sets can come in a variety of shapes and sizes including swing sets for infants and toddlers. Swings sets can contain other items besides a swing such as a sliding pole or sliding board. Swing sets for older children include swings made of flexible canvas seats, of rubberized tire tread, or wood. The sets for older children allow them to swing much higher, some as far as 15-20 feet above ground. Other types of swings include:
Tire swings are made from whole tires and usually are hanging from a tree on a rope. Some commercial swing sets
have oversized tires reinforced with metal bars thus improving safetyand suspended from three or more points. Tire swings can hang flat or be vertical.

Rope swings are usually made by tying a length of rope to a tree branch and sometimes are located above rivers or lakes.

There are such things as natural swings created by creeper plants usually found in tropical rain forests.
